I’m Muslamic Don’t Panik

Visual identity, website design, imagery, print materials, digital materials, videography, tour packs, lighting and sound technician and chai wallah

Autumn 2019, Bobak Champion approached me needing some visuals for a one person show called I’m Muslamic Don’t Panik. With a quick turnaround needed for some upcoming sharing/scratch performances, I proceeded to understand the motivations, aspirations and what the visuals needed to communicate.

For every 20 stories in the media about Islam and the Middle East, there is 1 positive (MENA 2023). It is statistics like these that has made Bobak motivated to combat this through dance, humour and sharing a new narrative.

Fast forward to Autumn 2023, The show has been on tour 3 times, performed about 40 different locations including Edinburgh Fringe 2023 and featured in the Guardian and the Scotsman. The design from the start has reflected the warmth, humour and energy of the performance; while the use of a bold, solid and cold use of typography for a contrast to represent the tough topics challenged with the performance.

The job title has blurred into graphic design and marketing. Each venue needed different digital and print elements which I took the lead on organisation and contact. The assests needed were: print, A5 flyers to A0 posters; branded and production images at different ratios and sizes; branded t-shirts; videography and editing; social media assets including creating Facebook events; documentation such as tour packs, press releases and funding applications.
